A Las Vegas casino was the scene of panic early Saturday morning, after an apparent suicide bomber walked into the property and threatened to blow the building sky-high.

Luckily, quick thinking security guards were able to convince him to leave the actual casino, although he did remain in the proximity of Arizona Charlie’s hotel, in a grassy area outside the building.

The Bomb. Don't Ride It.

Staff was then able to evacuate the 301 room hotel and casino, while the SWAT squad Armor Unit, and Las Vegas’s bomb squad tried convincing the man to give himself up.

However, something didn’t quite add up and while he was being persuaded to surrender, the man seemed more intent on persuading the armed officers to kill him.

The stand-off lasted for a couple of hours, until 11:45 a.m., when the man finally gave up and the device was discovered to be a fake.

Speculating on the bizarre occurrence, Las Vegas police believe the man was trying to commit “suicide by cop,” but fortunately the professional law officers didn’t fall for his game of bluff.

The man is now in custody while an assessment is being made of his mental health and possible federal charges are considered.

Don’t worry we are not advising that you take up bingo, we are simply going to give you advice that should give you better value for you online casino play.

Online bingo sites are in reality full blown online casino sites. Forget about the bingo games for a moment as all quality online bingo sites have a full range of casino games and slots. Better still as the fight for new customers by online bingo operators is to say the least fierce, the bonuses and promotions on offer are in many cases much better than those on offer from online casinos.

If you want further proof why online bingo sites are now a better option than online casino sites, then let me refer to the eagerly awaited Lord of the Rings Slot. This is a brand new, cutting edge slot released by Microgaming over the last couple of days. It has only initially been released to a few select online casinos although online bingo sites such as Virgin Bingo also have this slot. Party Bingo are also renowned for their great range of online slots and casino games.

If you want more advice and information regarding online bingo sites plus the range of casino type games on offer then visit Bingo Wonga. In our opinion this is one of the best online bingo sites that not only reviews the best of the best online bingo sites but has free play versions of the latest games and free online slots from the top online bingo sites. Well worth a visit in our opinion.

Casinos are designed to keep people inside; to be absolutely timeless. If you’re with some friends and having a good time, this is a good thing.
A man who left his toddler son in a freezing van while he gambled in a Calgary casino will not face a criminal charge of child abandonment. The court that heard his case withdrew the charge, provided he pleaded guilty to a lesser charge. The man received a one year conditional sentence.

Now, I’m all for justice AND the freedom to gamble, but this makes my blood boil. Leaving a child or an animal in a car in ANY extreme weather is despicable. According to witnesses, the temperature was minus 9C, and the child was only discovered by casino workers who heard him crying. Firefighters were able to rescue him by breaking into the car.

Please, if you have a child and would like to gamble, find a babysitter. Casinos might be no place for toddlers, but freezing cars are quite a bit worse.

Being underage is never fun – especially not when you’re in Vegas. Trying to get around the laws could land you, and your chosen establishment, in a ton of hot water. So, if you find yourself in Vegas and you’re a minor, you probably shouldn’t be in a casino. Punishments in general depend on the infraction’s scope, and could involve verbal warnings, fines, or in extreme cases suspending an operator’s gambling license

If you DO end up in a casino, please don’t Tweet about it.

MGM Resorts International was under investigation after Marcus Jordan, the underage son of basketball great Michael Jordan, bragged on Twitter about partying at a Las Vegas Strip nightclub.

“Last night was stupid… 35K at Haze,” (at Aria Resort & Casino) the University of Central Florida sophomore guard said. “Totals 50K something the whole day.” The tweet was quickly removed from his feed, but the damage was done.

Jordan told a Fox Sports website last week that the tweet was a mistake and said he had conversations with both his parents about it.

“I didn’t mean it the way it came across,” he said. “My family and friends know the type of person I am.”

Mr. Jordan, if you spent $50,000 on something OTHER than gambling in Las Vegas, we probably need to talk. There are only a few things that money could be spent on, and you’re too young for ALL of them. May I suggest you send that money on up my way if you get the urge to do this again? Cheers.

It makes for great cinema – the smug Casino boss, the charming thief, the daring heist…but does it actually happen? Is it possible for someone to steal from a casino and get away with it? It has been done, believe it or not – and whether or not they got away with it, here are the best examples:

Stardust Heist

In September of 1992, Bill Brennan, a cashier at the Stardust’s sports book, left for lunch with over $500,000 in cash and chips inside of a bag draped over his shoulder — the biggest theft from a Las Vegas casino in history. Even after being on the the FBI’s most wanted list, and appearing on America’s Most Wanted, there have been no signs of Brennan. Police believe he has fled the country, and he still hasn’t been found.

Heather Tallchief and Roberto Solis Rob Circus Circus

In October of 1993, Tallchief, 21, and Roberto Solis, 48, made off with a Loomis Armored truck filled with $2.5 million outside of Circus Circus. The two escaped the United States via the Cayman Islands and St. Martin. Solis, a man who Tallchief thought was in love with her, later left, leaving her with only $1,000 and their child. After running from the law for over 12 years, Heather Tallchief finally surrendered in September of 2005.

The 2005 Mandalay Bay Heist

On March 11, 2005 two men approached a casino change booth inside Mandalay Bay at about 4 p.m. and held up the cashier working inside the booth. The men then fled in a vehicle parked near an entrance, making off with an untold amount of money. Neither police nor Mandalay Bay spokesman Gordon Absher would specify which entrance they used or which booth was robbed, leaving the entire event shrouded in mystery.

Jose Vigoa Wreaks Havoc on Vegas

Vigoa’s biggest mistake came when he robbed the Bellagio wearing the amazing disguise of sunglasses and a baseball cap. The Bellagio managed to get extremely detailed shots of Vigoa, which ended up being broadcast for four days on Vegas TV and finally resulted in a 100 mph car chase through the city. Vigoa’s capture, arrest, and sentencing left him facing more than 500 years in prison with no possibility of parole.

Reginald and Donell Johnson Make a Repeated Mark of Treasure Island

In 2000, a lone gunman jumped over the main casino cage just after midnight hitting and robbing a cashier. He shot at and missed two security guards as he fled with an undisclosed amount of money, said Alan Feldman, spokesman for MGM Mirage, which owns Treasure Island hotel-casino.
During Reginald Johnson’s taped confession, he said he struck the cashier with his because his brother had recognized the cashier from the earlier heist.

The dealer’s job is in some ways the most important job in the casino. Table games cannot function without a dealer, and the dealers make the most contact with customers. If you’re looking for a job at a casino, you’ll probably need to get in at the ground floor unless you have relevant experience. Dealers are one ground floor entry that has room for advancement. Cashier positions don’t offer that kind of opportunity. Servers have some room for advancement, and can earn as well as dealers, but the job entails more physical labor.

Being a casino dealer requires a lot more than just knowing the rules of the game. Dealers need to know how to handle chips, how to cut and shuffle a deck, and how to spot cheaters. For roulette, dealers need to know how to handle the wheel. Most dealer schools offer each game as a separate course, with games like blackjack, roulette, and craps each requiring anywhere from 60-100 hours to achieve certification.

If you’re trying to get a job at a particular casino, it’s important to make sure that they’re looking for new dealers. Some casinos prefer to train their own dealers, and some prefer dealers trained at specific schools. Call the casino before you begin your training so that you don’t waste your time. It’s also good to find out what games they need dealers for. Start by learning two games to show that you can gain the necessary skills to work in a casino. You’ll need to add more games along the way, but often casinos will hire a dealer who can deal just two or three games well. Later on, you’ll know which games to add, and the casino may even help pay for your continuing education.

The job of a dealer is to manage the table completely. For a blackjack dealer, for example, that means handling the chips, shuffling the decks, dealing, making sure that everyone places their bets correctly, and more. For example, if there is a novice player at the table, it is the dealer’s job to instruct him or her on basic strategy. If the basic strategy is to hit, the dealer is taught to anticipate it, and to hit unless the player stops him. A dealer is also supposed to watch for suspicious behavior. If any is detected, it is not his job to interfere. Instead, he contacts the pit boss.

The dealer’s salary is usually quite low, but it is usually well-subsidized by tips from the patrons.

A casino pitt boss is usually someone who has worked as a dealer for several years and knows all of the games very well. The pit boss may have also been a floor man if the casino is large enough to need those.

The basic responsibilities of a pit boss are many. They watch the opening and closing count for each table that they supervise each shift. They supervise any chips or cash brought to the table. They keep an eye out for cheating of any sort. A pit boss watches for players who are acting in a suspicious manner, signs that decks of cards could be marked, opportunities for switching cards, dice, and chips. They also oversee any dispute that arises at the tables. If a player says that a dealer misplaced his chips, gave him the wrong winnings, or made any other mistake, the pit boss is immediately called over to verify the problem and oversee the solution.

The pit boss has to motivate the dealers and keep them working on his or her team. Dealers need to know that they can count on immediate support from the pit boss, even while the pit boss must always be polite and considerate to the customer. Balancing the need to keep customer relations good and the rapport with the dealer excellent can be one of the hardest aspects of the pit boss career.

If a player is drunk or belligerent or the player appears to be cheating, it is the job of the pit manager to deal with the situation. If the player is drunk, often they will simply try to have the player escorted to their hotel room. If the player is causing a scene, the pit boss has the job of trying to calm the situation and keeping it from escalating. In rare cases, they may need to call security, but it is their job to avoid that need as much as possible.

The salary for a pit boss is good, but not incredible. Salaries tend to be $50,000-$70,000 a year in the United States, depending upon the region and type of casino. Many dealers don’t try to become a pit boss because a good dealer can make nearly as much money through his tips without taking on the same kind of responsibility.

In the search for the perfect casino heist, chip forgery is one of the ideas that keeps getting thrown around. It has a simplicity to it. You don’t have to steal anything. Just get the right chips, go into the casino, gamble, cash in, and you have money. There’s no point at which you have to hold up a gun. There’s no getaway car. It seems like the perfect crime.

Earlier this year, one person with the brilliant idea of having a professional chip manufacturer make chips for him discovered that the chip manufacturers work with the casinos to avoid forgeries, so no, they wouldn’t make him chips just like the ones in those photos he took. William Reece Lancaster, who painted signs for a living, got caught taking 25 cent chips from the Grand Lake Casino and repainting them to look like their $500 counterparts.

As Pennsylvania’s Meadows Racetrack and Casino opens its doors to table games, they’re looking at a whole new level of preventing chip fraud. While other casinos in Pennsylvania have sophisticated chip security measures including images visible only under ultraviolet light and micro printed images which are visible only under magnification. Additional security measures such as color and weight are low-tech but already prevent some chip fraud.

The Meadows chips, though, use RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) which means a whole different level of security. Each table is equipped with scanners, so as soon as a player lays a chip down on the table, the chip’s entire history is immediately available to the dealer. Moreover, another type of fraud which is common in casinos is the attempt to add extra bets to winning hands. With the RFID microchips embedded in the Meadows casino chips, the dealer will instantly see any attempts to add or subtract bets.

The Meadows general manager, Sean Sullivan, said “We don’t want to scare anybody to think [counterfeiting] happens every day, but we surely want to do everything we can do to discourage it from happening here. At The Meadows, we’re going the full way. We don’t want to have any issues with this.”

According to Michael Cruz, the director of gaming laboratory operations for the state Gaming Control Board, if a casino finds a single counterfeit chip, they are required to exchange their entire set of chips, a very costly operation. So while The Meadows may have spent $2.50 for each smart chip compared to the usual $1.50 for a regular chip, they believe the cost is well worth it.

Backgammon is a game that’s played around the world. It is popular in the Middle East and its board is often found inside of travel chess and checkers sets. The basic rules of the game are quite simple. Players take turn rolling the dice. They move their pieces around the board until all of them are ‘home.’ If a player’s checker lands on a single piece alone, the other player’s piece is placed on the bar and has to start play over again. Even a first grader can learn the basic rules of backgammon.

At first glance, backgammon looks like a game of chance just like craps, but it is actually a strategy game. Since players can ‘take’ the other player’s pieces, and block them by putting two or more pieces on the same spot, a player can block his opponent from making progress. On the other hand, spending all of the game worrying about one’s opponent means not getting one’s own pieces around the board fast enough.

In recent years, there have been a few programming projects using a method called neural networking to determine the best move in any given backgammon games, proving that backgammon is much more a game of strategy than a game of chess. In this, it strongly resembles poker. On the other hand, a backgammon game allows only two players at a time. In addition, while there is betting, the betting does not have the level of importance that it has in poker.

In backgammon, in addition to the two dice that each player holds, there is an additional doubling die. If a player feels that he is in a winning position, he can offer his opponent a double. The player can either accept the double or resign the game. Additionally, if a player wins before his opponent has gotten any of their pieces ‘home,’ the win is doubled. As such, backgammon lends itself to wagering easily.

On the other hand, you’re not likely to see backgammon hit Atlantic City or Vegas as quickly as it’s hit some online casinos, because there’s no place for a dealer. Moreover, a single game takes a long time and can only accommodate two players. As a result, it is not profitable for land-based casinos to host backgammon on a regular basis. Some host backgammon tournaments once or twice a year, but it is rare to find a casino that hosts regular backgammon games.

Casinos are designed with one purpose in mind; to keep you there as long as possible. The music of the slot machines is subtly designed to engage your mind. Attractive ladies talk nicely to you. There are no clocks, no windows. You don’t feel the passage of time. Alcoholic drinks are plentiful, inexpensive, sometimes even free. It seems like the next big win is just around the corner. It’s the next hand, the next spin of the reels, the roulette wheel, the next roll of the dice. It’s easy to see how people get caught up in this Disneyland of the senses and lose money they didn’t expect to spend.

It’s not long before many of those people walk out with their pockets empty wondering what happened this time. There is, however, another way. That way involves setting limits for yourself and sticking to them. First, wear a wristwatch. Even if you don’t usually, put one on for the casino. Keep track of how much time you’re spending there. If you hit the casino floor after breakfast, set an alarm for lunch time so that you don’t forget to eat then. Second, set a limit on your spending. Decide on a limit, and stick to it. If you get under that limit, you are finished. It doesn’t matter how close you are to making a million dollars. Once your budget for the day hits zero, you need to leave the casino floor. If you’re playing blackjack and you don’t have enough to double or split, then don’t double or split. Just play out the hand and hope for the best.

Another place to limit yourself is your drinking. Drinking dulls your judgment. Enjoy a drink or two, but then switch to Coke or water or coffee. It will also keep you from getting dehydrated or drunk and doing something embarrassing that you’ll regret later on. Remember that it takes a drink about an hour to clear your system, so you can safely have one drink every hour. If you’re driving, be sure to finish the last one over an hour before you get into the car and have at least two cups of something without alcohol before you start driving. If you feel tired, sit down for a while and relax before you get behind the wheel, because a car accident can cost a lot more than casino losses.

Most importantly, place an upper limit on your money, too. Decide how much you have to win before you’ll walk out of the casino. If you win that amount, walk out with your winnings, and don’t look back! Have fun.
