Using Betting Systems at Casinos

In the previous post, I discussed how controlling your cash is key in coming out ahead at a casino, whether online or land-based. I mentioned using a betting system called the Martingale. The Martingale system is one of the best known betting systems in the gambling world, and a lot of people use it because when your luck is average and your bankroll doesn’t get wiped out, it builds a bankroll slowly but steadily. The Martingale system is only reasonable to play at a game where there is an even-odds bet that has a low house edge. Most table games fit the bill. If you’re playing baccarat, for example, the punto or banco bet fit the bill, but the tie bet is not a good one. Blackjack presents a little trouble since there are situations in which you raise your bet mid-round, but since it is a favorite game with a low house edge, it’s still a good game to consider.

Another important thing to check is the table’s betting range. To play a Martingale system, you’ll need a very large betting range. By the time you’ve placed seven losing wagers in a row, your wager is over one hundred times what it was when you started. Having to change games and tables will make your casino experience annoying and unpleasant. Online casinos often offer quite a large range, making them better for this type of play.

If you’re looking for a way to win big, there are other systems that can win money faster but are riskier. One system doubles the bet upon winning. The problem with this system should be obvious. If you do it enough times, you will eventually lose. In order to make this a winning system, players will cap their wins at three or four wins in a row and return to their original bet. Another way to play a positive betting system is to add to the bet after every win, but not to double it. For example, if you start with a $10 bet and win, you’d raise the next bet to $15. If you win again, you’d raise your bet to $22.50. You could also increase your wager by $5 increments. In any of these cases, you would be protected from a loss, because you effectively ‘bank’ some of your winnings. Remember that greed is your worst enemy. Banking small earnings help you take advantage of every win instead of being a slave to the variance.
